In the last year, Troktiko has been attacking Makis Triantafylopoulos for keeping quiet about the Kouris scandal and for keeping quiet about another scandal too: Raptopoulos, the owner of Express Service (a road service and insurance company) owes 40,000,000 euros in back taxes that he has never paid. Makis has not said a word about this because he's friends with Raptopoulos and Raptopoulos was the best man at Maki's wedding.

Makis became upset by these posts and has been flaming Troktiko with accusations of plagiarism and traffic inflation, peppered by namecalling, and the insinstence that the administrator of Troktiko is Sokratis Giolias, his ex-editor and godfather of his child. Giolias has repeatedly refuted these accusations and so did the blog administrators, explaining that although they know Sokratis Giolias, he is not one of their admins. Makis however insists that it's Giolias and attacks him daily from his online column at his site, and in the newspaper he owns.

Last year there was another corruption scandal with Siemens (I won't get into this scandal in this post) and the newspaper PARON, owned by Kouris, the same guy who owns Alter Channel that Makis works for, wrote that one of the people accused in the Siemens scandal was a guy named George Psaras. Last week, Troktiko posts the article from PARON and asks if Psaras is the same guy who works as an unpaid assistant for Makis Triantafylopoulos at Alter channel. That post was published on Friday, the 14th of February.

The next morning at 5:00 am, police officers and a prosecutor barged in the home of Sokratis Giolias and arrested him in front of his wife and child. They confiscated his computers and hard drives and they went to the radio station where he works and confiscated the computers and hard drives from there as well. The reason? Makis Triantafylopoulos and his unpaid assistant George Psaras, filed suit for libel against Sokratis Giolias as the administrator of Troktiko. The police didn't find any incriminating evidence that Giolias is associated with Troktiko and they let him go after several hours in the police station.

In what kind of country does the police arrest a journalist by acting on someone's baseless accusations with no evidence at all? Would the police have arrested Giolias if it had been some unknown schmuck that accused him of libel and demanded his arrest? The ultimate hypocrisy of course is that Makis, once again, covered his boss by completely ignoring that PARON, his boss's newspaper, published the information first. All he wanted was to satisfy his personal vendetta against his ex-editor and friend. So a journalist, backed by a publishing owner who can support or take down a government, has the ability to throw in jail anyone he doesn't like while remaining mum to scandals that line his pockets.

This is the level of corruption Greeks are dealing with.
